What Botox Can Do (Besides Help With Wrinkles)

We constantly see patients for Botox procedures at our family medicine in Miami clinic. While it is commonly known that Botox can help treat and prevent fine lines and wrinkles, there are a wide array of uses Botox has that many do not know about.

In 2010, the FDA approved Botox for use to help reduce migraine attacks. Botox has been proven to cut down on the number of chronic migraine headaches, with patients seeing a massive reduction in the frequency of migraine headaches.

Botox can also help with excessive sweating – an issue known as hyperhidrosis. When prescription antiperspirants don’t work, Botox can help. The FDA has given approval for the use of Botox to treat excessive underarm sweating. It can also help reduce sweating in the feet, face, and hands.

Neck and shoulder pains may also be minimized through Botox, including chronic posterior neck pain and shoulder myofascial pain syndrome. Since Botox also helps treat migraines, it can help reduce the amount of headaches associated with these illnesses as well.

Strabismus, a condition known as improper eye alignment, can also be treated with Botox. Since the 1970s, Botox has been used to treat the positions of the eyes so that they both face in the direction the person is looking.
