Which Dermal Filler Is Right for You?

The two most popular types of dermal fillers are Restylane and Radiesse, both of which are used for dermal cell regeneration and are certified by the FDA. Using hyaluronic acid, these fillers moisturize the skin, restoring cells and fighting the effects of wrinkles. While both of these solutions function as non-surgical face lifers, they each have their distinct characteristics, which means one may be better for you than the other.

Restylane is a soft gel that lasts about six months. It is typically used for volumetric face contouring, filling in wrinkles while also adjusting nose, cheek, or chin shape and correcting the area near the eyes. It is safe to use in the human body and there is no risk of an allergic reaction. A bit of swelling may happen after a procedure but this will typically subside after a few days. Restylane is comprised of a broad array of fillers that each target certain areas.

Because it is a calcium hydroxyapatite filler, Radiesse lasts longer than Restylane. It provides greater structural support which means it’s better suited for things like enlarging the cheeks or lifting the eyebrows.

Restylane can be dissolved easily and quickly so that during surgery, surgeons can immediately remove the filler, allowing small changes to be made. All fillers are equally effective for aging skin and are a very good solution. Simply put, the Radiesse filler is more effective for severe deep wrinkles and discernible skin defects, while Restylane has a broad range of action and is softer and milder. Your doctor can help you determine the right dermal filler.
