Dysport vs. Botox:

Which Is The Better Solution to Remove Your Wrinkles?

It’s a common issue: when you look in the mirror, you don’t love what you see. There are too many wrinkles on your forehead and around your eyes and mouth, and you look older than you feel. And while you cannot turn back time, you can make those wrinkles go away, with two popular solutions: Dysport and Botox.

Both are non-invasive cosmetic treatments that smooth the skin for a period of time, and they are both FDA-approved. So, which one is the best solution for you?

What Is Botox?

We start with Botox because you are probably more familiar with this product. Botox is composed of the same toxin that causes botulism but is weakened to a safe dose. Our healthcare professionals use it to remove signs of premature aging, to great effect.

Once injected, it will paralyze the nerves for a period of time. Thus, the muscles become relaxed and the wrinkles and lines disappear. As such, it might sound as though that is sufficient to get the job done. However…

What Is Dysport?

Dysport originated in Europe using another derivative of the same neurotoxin that is active in Botox, and it was originally used to treat muscle spasm disorders. The FDA approved it for use in the US in 2009, resulting in many doctors with extensive experience in using it today.

Dysport, like Botox, is also a weak form of the botulinum toxin, which brings up the question of whether there is any difference between the two products at all. While both products are similar, they are used for different purposes.

Dysport vs. Botox: Difference in Usage

The most important difference between the two cosmetic treatments is where a doctor will inject them. Botox is ideal for wrinkles and lines on the face overall, specifically:

  • On the forehead
  • Around the eyes
  • Around the mouth.

It has great results on fine lines, especially crows’ feet and lip lines.

By contrast, Dysport is used to correct frown lines or 11 lines (vertical lines) on the forehead. Moreover, Dysport is 3 times less concentrated than Botox. Thus, a doctor will inject more of the substance to achieve the desired result.

As a general rule, Dysport works better on larger surfaces, correcting moderate to severe frown lines and acting very quickly.

How Long Do They Last?

Moreover, there is a difference in the duration of the effects. Patients who receive Dysport injections need to come back every 3 months. Botox lasts longer – 4 months, and even more in some cases. In the end, you don’t have to worry about choosing between Dysport and Botox.
