Dermal Fillers or Botox?

Botox can help improve the appearance of facial expressions that result in lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers contain ingredients that add fullness to areas thinning due to aging. This thinning in the cheeks, lips and around the mouth is normal.

People should be mindful of risks and have reasonable standards of what Botox and dermal fillers can do.

Botox acts only on the wrinkles created by muscle movement. These are classified as dynamic wrinkles, which are sometimes referred to as "speech lines." Botox's most prominent dynamic wrinkles are lines on the upper lip, such as horizontal lines on the front and crow's feet around the eyes. Smiling, frowning, squinting, and other facial expressions trigger those lines. Botox won't work on fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial aging or loss of plumpness. Those are considered static wrinkles. Static wrinkles have lines in the area around the ears, collar, and jowl. Botox does not leave permanent results, however.

Dermal fillers, also referred to as soft tissue fillers, are substances meant to be inserted under the skin surface to create volume. Various forms of dermal fillers are intended to combat different aging symptoms. Dermal fillers can help with plumping lips, decreasing shadows below the eyes, and softening the look of recessed scars to name a few.
